By using a needle locked into a micropigmentation machine and carbon based pigment, impressions are made with light taps into the papillary layer (most superficial layer of the dermis) simulating and replicating the exact appearance of shaved hair (stubble or follicles). Over the course of three seperate sessions a new custom hairline is made and density is built up on the scalp. Your hairline can be Natural Receding, Round, Widows Peak, Barber Style Edge Up, or customized to whatever you like. The first session the impressions are a half inch apart. The second session (7-10 days later) more impressions are made in between the previous ones. The third session (2-3 weeks later) more impressions are made in between to tighten up the density giving it a full dense look. Building this three session density on the scalp results in the natural realistic look of a full head of shaved hair. When blending into the actual real hair the impressions are broken up and faded out to create a perfectly seamless blend all over the scalp. This can also be used to fully treat Alopecia Areata as well as Alopecia Totalis.
Scalp Micropigmentation fades very naturally with time. As the skin exfoliates it naturally lightens up but keeps the appearance of a real shaved scalp. If your remaining hair turns grey then no touch-ups are done so it can fade and lighten up, then touch-ups are done with a much lighter shade to match the grey color. Also when hair is shaved the follicles usually are all a shade of black whether it be very light or very dark or in between. You don't see color until the hair strand begins to grow out of the shaft. This is why red and blonde hair can also be matched up with Scalp Micropigmentation when shaved down for a perfect blend.
Scalp Micropigmentation lasts up to 5 years or as long as you want it to with minor touch-ups. As it naturally fades it always keeps the illusion of a shaved scalp and a touch up is done to bring in a more crisp freshly shaved look. The fading balances it out so when pigment is added with a touch-up it brings it back up to the way it was resembling a fresh natural custom buzz cut. You can do this yearly or bi-yearly or even longer.
When SMP is done correctly and properly using the technique I use it won't change color. Using a carbon black based pigment with a dilution scale it fades very naturally retaining it's natural color through the process of time and touch-ups.
I use a Cheyenne Spirit machine, .25mm 3 point needle, and 5pm Shadow pigment. The Cheyenne Spirit is the best micropigmentation machine on the market and used by the best artists around the world. Combining this machine with a three-point needle gives you two of the three keys needed to perform Scalp Micropigmentation. The third one is the pigment. As I said above the carbon base when diluted retains it's natural color fading very naturally with exfoliation keeping that realistic look of a shaved scalp and looking more real as it heals with time. I also use ProTouch and FYT three-point needles to create realism which gives a 3D illusion making the replicated follicles look like real hair actually growing off of the scalp.
